Ok, the good news is that I don't drink, I don't smoke which gives me an advantage over the other men in my family. It is only the lack of exercise and uncontrolled eating that has brought about the obesity.
So how do I get on from this point? What is it that I need to do? Remember, I have done this before, will it be that difficult to do this again?
The decision to lose weight and managed to do it came after an accident where I sprained my ankle really bad and I had to wear a cast for 30 days. I weighed 115 kg then. A week later I woke up and had a really hard time breathing. I found myself in intensive care my heart racing 180bpm and my oxygen levels dropping.
What had really happened was that because of my weight clots of blood had entered my lungs blocking them so not enough oxygen would go around making my heart pump more blood to get the oxygen running.
It was a close call. A really close one according to my doctor who suggested going on a diet immediately. So, a new pair of running shoes a visit to a dietician, and a gym later had me working out 2 hours, 3 times a week. Mainly aerobic exercises, fast walking 45 mins, a few weights exercises, and mountain climbing every second Sunday. I ended up spending 6 hours at the gym per week and losing a total of 35 kg in a year.
And then I stopped.
My excuse was that it was taking too much time of other things in my life. Well I had to wake up really early to catch a 30 minute ride to the city, work out and then a bus back home to get ready for work. With the added pressure from my long distance university to finally wrap up my courses and get my degree, it meant that I had to sleep less and less. Plus I felt really good, I thought I had been on a good track and even without the intensive exercise I would manage to keep it going. I was so wrong. Gradually I gained all my weight back. It took about 3 years but here it is.
So, this is the history.
